Tom Lambert's High Income Consulting is an excellent resource for building a consultancy business. He covers all aspects from writing proposals, setting fees, marketing and selling though to strategies for consultancy assignments.

If you are using your business plan to work out how to get more clients, then Robert Middleton's Action Plan Marketing site is worth checking out. There's a free 24-page Marketing Plan Workbook that can be downloaded from his site and he's also written the Infoguru Marketing Manual.

David Ferrers has written The New Client Magnet: a Consultants' and Coaches' Power Pack, which I highly recommend as an excellent guide to getting more business. His WISP (Will it solve my problem?) concept is something that all consultants should be using.

David also produces a very useful weekly ezine, which you can sign up for at his website and he also holds marketing bootcamps.

Another David, David Frey, has released a most impressive programme to help coaches and consultants build their businesses.

His Coaches' and Consultants' Marketing Bookcamp uses a very sophisticated methodology to help develop the core identity of one's business and a marketing plan. He also provides a whole ton of resources for developing marketing materials, including real-life examples of marketing materials used by coaches and consultants. I also recommend it very highly.

In terms of choosing between the two, it depends on what you are looking for. David Frey's product is more comprehensive but it's also more expensive and will take longer to go through.

Steve Hackney is also worth looking at. He concentrates on helping service businesses to market more effectively and has developed a very detailed step-by-step sales and marketing system. Any consultant who follows his system will end up with a more sophisticated marketing strategy than 95% of their competitors.

He has a five part marketing course which can be signed up for at his website, Power Marketing Strategy, which is a good introduction to his ideas.
